Shade Tree Players Wrap-up Season with Three Great Shows

By PI Staff

Dakota Stage Theater and Shade Tree Players are proud to present their final three plays that will run during August 2012. They are as follows

King Lear (Traveling Troup) – Aug. 1-11: In one of Shakespeare’s most revered tragedies, the title character descends into madness after foolishly disposing of his estate between two of his three daughters based on their flattery, bringing tragic consequences for all. The play is based on the legend of Leir of Britain, a mythological pre-Roman Celtic king. It has been widely adapted for the stage and motion pictures, and the role of Lear has been coveted and played by many of the world’s most accomplished actors.

Stuart Little (Musical) – Aug. 2-5: This is the endearing classic about a mouse named Stuart Little who is born into an ordinary New York family. All the charm, wisdom and joy of the E.B. White original are captured in this adaptation by Joseph Robinette, who also dramatized the highly acclaimed stage version of Charlotte’s Web. The many adventures-both big and small-of Stuart Little are brought vividly to life in this story theatre presentation.

The Prince and the Pauper – Aug. 9-12: When Edward Tudor, Prince of Wales, sees poor Tom Canty mistreated by one of his guards, he invites the pauper into the palace for a bite to eat. After conversing about each other’s ives, the prince suggests they exchange clothing for fun. But the simple game soon become harsh reality when the prince’s guards mistake Edward for the pauper and throw him into the street while Tom is ushered in to handle important stately affairs. Wearing each other’s shoes (literally), the boys discover what it’s like “on the other side,” and it doesn’t take long for each of them to appreciate the life they always knew.

Starring area children from 7-18 years of age, many appearing on the STP stage for the first time, these productions are certain to be fun filled, family events.
