Into the Abyss

Werner Herzog and I agree on one matter. We are opposed to capital punishment. For me, it has always been a simple matter. The shadow of doubt is virtually inescapable. If one isn’t pres­ent when the act is committed, one can­not be certain that evidence, testimony, and even confessions aren’t tainted by mistakes, misperceptions, and lies (in­tentional or otherwise).
